When you install Free Accounting on your computer, the generated database will contain two companies: one of them will be used for running your business and the other - with sample data provided for the Tutorial. The sample company is the company you are going to work with while reading this Tutorial. It already includes the records of a Customer, Vendor and some Items. In the current lesson you will make the sample company active in order to be able to work with the sample data.

Having two companies (real and sample) in the database you can use only one at once.
To make the sample company active follow these steps:
- Select Tools | Options from the Main Menu.
- On the Working Company tab select the Sample Company from the Company Level drop-down list.
- Check the box in the Working column.
- Press the Ok button.
When the Sample company is active, all the records of this company become available for your working with them: the records of the Customer, Vendor and Items. The name of this company is displayed in the Status bar at the bottom of the working pane.

If you want to view the information about the existing companies or make some changes in it, press on the Commands Panel, select
Companies List in the Navigation pane, make right click on the company in the working window and select Edit.
