Before the installation process will begin you need to be sure that you have the following software installed on your computer:
- Internet Explorer version 5.0 or higher
- MSDE Microsoft's SQL Desktop Engine 2000 (Free From Microsoft) or Microsoft SQL Server 2000.
The Free Accounting Installer includes MSDE. Installation of MSDE is optional. If you have MSSQL or have already installed MSDE you will not be required to re-install MSDE, you can use your existing installation.
To install the Free Accounting software on your computer follow the steps of the installation wizard. Run the install.msi to setup the application.
Run the installation file.
- Free Accounting welcome screen wizard will appear. Press the Next button.
- Agree to the terms of the licence agreement to continue the installation process. Press the Next button.
- Select the type of the installation that you want to run. You have the following opportunities:
- Server and Workstation - will install the empty database on the server or on the machine where you want the database to be located. It will also install the executable on your hard drive.
- Workstation - will install the Free Accounting application only on your hard drive.
- Server - will install the database only on the server or on the machine where you want the database to be located.
The Server and Workstation Type of Installation
- Select one of the following options:
- Install Microsoft SQL Desktop Engine - you choose this option if you do not have SQL Server installed. The Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE) will be installed on your computer and will be used as a server.
- Connect to existed SQL Server or Microsoft SQL Desktop Engine - you choose this option if you already have SQL Server installed. You will have to specify the path to the server in the next step.
- On the next wizard page specify the

SQL Server Name - the name of the server where you want your database to be created or updated if you installed the database previously (if you have chosen Connect
to existing SQL Server) or the name of the server that will be created with MSDE installation (if you have chosen Install MSDE). Do not change your computer's name.
- Database Name - by default the installation wizard gives the name to the database of Free Accounting. You can change the name if you want.
- Login - login name that you will use to connect to the database. The default login is sa.
- Password - the password that you will use to connect to the database. The default password is sa.
Press the Next button.
This will only create a new database. If you have an existing database and want to upgrate Free Accounting, please consult help file topic Upgrading to Newer Version. If the database of the same name exists the installation wizard will notify you that this exists. You should rename the database name.
Press the Next button.
By default the executable will be installed to the following path C:\Program Files\Free Accounting. If you want you can change the location of the executable by pressing the Change button and selecting the different folder.
Press the Next button.
By default the shortcut will be created in the folder Free Accounting. From the drop-down list you can select the folder you want to place the shortcut.
Press the Next button several times.
The process of creating and coping files will be started.
Press the Finish button when you will see the Installation successfully finished screen.
Workstation type of installation
- Specify the

SQL Server Name - The name of the server where Free Accounting will be connected.
- Database Name - The name of the database you want to be connected to.
Press the Next button.
By default the executable will be installed to the following path C:\Program Files\Free Accounting. If you want you can change the location of the executable by pressing the Change button and selecting the different folder.
Press the Next button.
By default the shortcut will be created in the folder Free Accounting. From the drop-down list you can select the folder you want to place the shortcut in.
Press the Next button several times.
The process of creating and coping files will be started.
Press the Finish button when you will see the Installation successfully finished screen.
Server type of installation
- Select one of the following options:
